Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is so far the most popular primate trekking destination in Uganda, set within the south-western part of the country and sitting on an area of 331 square kilometers. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was established in 1991 and received its first gorilla trekkers in 1993.

Besides the mountain gorillas, other primates found here are Chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, Olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, De Brazza monkeys, blue monkeys, L’Hoests monkeys, Pottos and many others. Detailed itinerary of the 5 Days Uganda Safari - Best Uganda Primates Safari

Day 1: Arrival into Uganda and transfer to western Uganda, Kibale Forest National Park

On the first day of the 5 days Uganda Safari, you arrive into Uganda and be met by our safari guide.

Be briefed on the trip and be transferred to your first destination-Kibale Forest National Park past Mityana, Mubende and Fort Portal Town.

Be treated to views of the countryside, verdant tea plantations and huge boulders with a lunch break in Fort Portal Town. Time permitting, undertake the Crater Lakes tour and proceed to the Lodge for dinner and slumber.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in the lush Kibale Forest and guided walk through Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary

After a sumptuous breakfast, converge at the Park Headquarters in Kanyanchu for registration/briefing then continue for the chimpanzee trekking adventure.

At 8:00am begin the search for the habituated chimpanzee troop in Kibale Forest with occasional sights of blue monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, red-tailed monkeys, olive baboons and many others.

You might also be lucky to see forest elephants, giant forest hogs and forest bird species that include the sought-after green-breasted pitta as well as Great Blue Turaco.

After 1-4 hours of trekking these beautiful and endangered Great Apes, you will make contact with the allotted chimpanzee troop with whom you will spend one hour to watch chimpanzee antics and take photos.

In the afternoon get served a hot meal at your safari Lodge and undertake a guided walk through Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, ideal for birding especially if you are interested in spotting the Great blue Turaco, Papyrus gonolek and Papyrus canary among others. Late in the evening retire to the Lodge to dine and rest.

Drive through the beautiful countryside with views of the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains and drive via Queen Elizabeth National Park where you are likely to see tree-climbing lions. Along the way enjoy Lunch and in the evening arrive Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

After the briefing, you will be placed in a group with 7 other trekkers to visit a particular habituated gorilla family and later venture into the dense jungles to search for the mountain gorillas.

Spend a maximum of one hour observing and photographing the gorillas while listening to the interesting facts provided by the expert Ranger guide.

In the evening after lunch and siesta embark on a cultural tour within the nearby Batwa community where you will learn about their traditions and cultural dances. After this rewarding activity, retire to the Lodge for dinner and slumber.
