Day 1: Arrival at Kigali

Get a warm welcome from our driver guide at Kigali International Airport and later, he will brief you on what your 8 days Rwanda safari is about. After, he will drive you to your hotel in Kigali

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park 

Start your day with a hot cup of Rwanda tea or coffee and later, meet your driver guide ready to embark on a road trip to Akagera National Park which is in the eastern province of Rwanda. Get here early enough and enjoy your lunch.

In the afternoon, you have exciting boat cruise along the scenic Lake Ihema for you to catch a glimpse at several hippos, crocodiles and water birds plus elephants, buffaloes as they roam along the lake shores.

Day 3: Morning Game drive and drive to Volcanoes National Park

After a delicious breakfast early morning, you have a game drive via the northern part of Akagera National Park.

It will take you about 2 to 3 hours but will reward you with incredible view of varied savanna dwellers including elephants, leopards, lions, buffaloes, rhinos, antelopes, giraffes, birds a mention but a few. Later, you will return to have lunch and then drive to Volcanoes National Park in northwestern Rwanda.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

You are expected to get up early enough to make preparation, take your tea or coffee and at 7:00am with your packed lunch and water, assemble at Kinigi park headquarters for briefing. You will be briefed by park ranger or park official and also allocated to a gorilla family to trek.

At 8:00am, you will start your adventure which may take you 2 to 6 hours although this entirely depends on the nature of habitat, where these creatures are and nature of the habitat. Once you get a group assigned to you, you have an hour to make your dream come into reality.

Volcanoes National Park consists of habituated families such as Susa, Kwitonda, Ugenda, Bwenge, Hirwa, Karisimbi, Umubano, Amahoro, Agashya and Sabyinyo. After, you will get back to have some rest and in the afternoon/evening, you will pay a visit to Iby’Iwacu cultural center for cultural experience.

Day 5: Golden Monkey Trekking in Volcanoes National Park and drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After an early breakfast, you will assemble once again at Kinigi for briefing but today for golden monkey trekking guidelines or hike to Dian Fossey tomb site at Karisoke Research Center.

Later, you will be driven to southwards to Nyungwe Forest National Park a home to about 13 distinct primate species.

Day 6: Chimpanzee Trekking and canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest National Park

Enjoy your breakfast and later, gather at either Cyangungu or Uwinka for briefing on safety guidelines for Chimpanzee Trekking. A chimpanzee trek can take you about 2 to 4 hours and only one hour is given to you for magical encounter.

However, it also rewards trekkers with incredible sights at other primates such as colobus monkeys, mangabeys, blue monkeys and forest birds. 

After your chimpanzee exploration, you will get back to the lodge to have lunch and in the afternoon, you have a canopy walk. On canopy walk, you have a chance to spot out several primates, birds and beautiful forest cover.

Day 7: Drive back to Kigali City

After breakfast, embark on a forest walk for bird watching experience where you also view more primates. Nyungwe Forest is known to be one of Rwanda’s birders paradise and it is a birding destinations with over 310 bird species. Expect to spot birds likes the Great Blue Turaco, the Paradise Flycatcher, Re-Throated Alethe, and the Gigantic Forest Hornbill among others.

At around mid-day, you will depart for Kigali after Lunch and check in to your hotel for relaxation, swimming or go for a city walk. 

Day 8: Kigali City Tour

The last day of our 8 days Rwanda Safari holiday will be for Kigali city tour. Among the amazing sites to visit while in Kigali include; Kigali Genocide Memorial Site, the Presidential Museum, Visiting Artisan/Craft Centers, Kigali Convention Center, have lunch at City Restaurant or Hotel des mille collines popularly known as Hotel Rwanda form the movie “Hotel Rwanda” and many more.

The order to which those sites are visited in dependent on the start time and your hotel location. After the activities in Kigali city, you will driven back to your hotel or drive direct to Kigali airport to catch up with your flight back home.
