About Volcanoes National Park | Rwanda Gorilla Safari Park
Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda Volcanoes National Park (Parc National des Volcans ) – In view of the fact that the permit holders are required to check in at the park headquarters in the nearby Kinigi at 7am on the day of tracking, staying in Musanze (Ruhengeri) is a much safer option than leaving Kigali at the crack of dawn. Nothing can prepare you for an encounter with mountain gorillas in the mist especially if you have never been to a forest before.
Despite their intimidating size, they are surprisingly non-aggressive animals and you will find your stay around them very welcoming. Please note that gorilla trekking is no bliss ride; it involves a lot of strenuous effort through the dense forest, steep and muddy hillsides. But coming up close the gorillas at last after all the effort will be worth your input.
While most of the tourists to the park are understandably driven by the desire to have a face to face encounter with the gorillas in the mist, there is a good reason to stay in the park areas once the tracking is finished. The mountain gorillas share the park with a troop of rare golden monkeys, which are being slowly habituated to human contact.
