3 Day Gorilla Habituation Bwindi

If you’ve ever wished to spend more time with these rare giant apes, the 3 days of gorilla habituation safari will fulfill your dreams. Unlike the standard gorilla trekking tours, this gorilla habituation experience allows you to spend a full day exploring the habitat of the mountain gorillas, offering a maximum of four hours of magical encounters with the gentle giants.

Additionally, it provides the opportunity to participate in their training – familiarizing mountain gorillas with human presence, monitoring their individual traits for an extended period making it a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the only place in this world where mountain gorilla habituation can be done. The forest is home to almost half of the world’s remaining population of mountain gorillas.

The park lies in the south western part of the country on the edge of the Rift Valley. Bwindi forest was gazetted as a National Park in 1991 and declared as a UNESCO world heritage site in the year 1994. The park’s terrain is rugged, featuring narrow valleys intersected by rivers and steep hills.

The forest is a water catchment area with underlying geology where water flows through large fault structures; much of the park’s rainfall forms streams and the forest has s dense network of streams. The park’s vegetation is moist and evergreen with a dense growth of herbs, vines and shrubs.

Detailed Itinerary for the 3 Days Gorilla Habituation Bwindi Safari Package:

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park;

After your early morning breakfast, you will set off for your 3 Days Gorilla Habituation Safari to Bwindi, home to the mountain gorillas. Apart from the mountain gorillas, Bwindi impenetrable national park is inhabits a variety of other primates and wildlife that can be seen while doing his gorilla habituation or gorilla trekking.

They include; the black and white colobus monkeys, red tailed monkeys, the blue monkeys to mention but a few, you can also be able to see some bird species like the African green broad bill, grauers warbler, short tailed warbler to mention but a few.

As you drive towards the southwestern Uganda to Bwindi, you’ll be treated to beautiful scenic views. You will have your first stopover at the Equator for some photos and some information about the imaginary line and then proceed with your journey .

You will again have another stopover for lunch at Igongo cultural center in Mbarara before continuing to Bwindi reaching in the evening hours, a journey of approximately 8-9 hours. 

Upon arrival, check into your accommodation, enjoy dinner, relax as you prepare for the next day.

Day 2: Bwindi Gorilla Habituation Experience;

Begin your day with an early breakfast, then your driver will drive you to the park headquarters for briefing and then you will begin your adventure, it is recommended to carry packed lunch and enough drinking water. 

Bwindi Gorilla Habituation Experience

The time for gorilla habituation varies according to the movement and location of the gorilla family you are habituating. Coming face to face with these gentle giants is electrifying!

Once you track your assigned mountain gorilla family, you’ll have the opportunity to spend time observing them, taking photos, and witnessing their captivating behavior. You’ll see young gorillas playfully swinging in trees, while the adults groom, feed, and rest.

Gorilla habituation gives you a maximum of four hours with the mountain gorillas. Then later you will return to the park headquarters and the to the lodge for dinner and retire for the night.

Day 3: Return to Kampala;

After your early morning breakfast, then embark on your journey back to Kampala you will have lunch along the way and also have another stopover at Mpambire drum makers where you will be able to appreciate the beauty of the traditional drums and other handcrafts. 

Then proceed to Kampala where you will arrive in the late afternoon and be dropped at your area of convenience, that will mark the end of your 3-Day Gorilla Habituation Bwindi safari experience.
