An Epic 5 Days Gorilla Trekking Uganda Safari Experience

Day 1: Drive from Kampala capital city to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Enjoy your delicious cup of tea or coffee and later, meet your driver guide ready to set off to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Kisoro district, Southwestern Uganda. Drive from the hotel in Kampala through Masaka-Mbarara-Kisoro to Mgahinga, about 8-9 hours’ drive.

Have en-route stop visit at Uganda Equator crossing for photography and relaxation then lunch break at Igongo Cultural Centre. Proceed thereafter to Mgahinga to check in at the lodge you booked.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience in Mgahinga

After a hefty breakfast, leave your safari lodge for briefing at Ntebeko on the dos and don’ts for Gorilla Trekking. After briefing, at 8:00am hit the jungles with park guide on lead to search for Nyakagezi gorilla group. This gorilla adventure takes 2-6 hours but it includes an hour of a close interaction with mountain gorillas.

You will also learn more on how they behave, take pictures and then get back to the park offices to be given your gorilla trekking certificate. Proceed to the lodge to have a relaxed evening, dinner and comfortable night stay.

Day 3: Batwa Trail Exploration

After your cup of tea or coffee, report once again to Ntebeko to be briefed on eco-tourism. Later, start your trek through the Batwa trail.

This will be a whole day exploration and in-depth learning about the Batwa pygmies’ unique traditions, lifestyles, learn about their ancient hunting and gathering techniques among others (read more about Batwa here).

The trail also leads you to Garama Caves then you return to the lodge to have a relaxed evening, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Trekking and drive to Lake Bunyonyi

After an early morning breakfast, assemble for briefing on Golden Monkey Trekking guidelines at Mgahinga park offices. At 8:00am, the park guide assigned to you leads your group into the jungles to look for golden monkeys and this takes 2-4 hours.

Once you find Golden Monkeys, expect to spend only 1 hour face to face with them, take photos and have an in-depth learning about their daily behaviors. After, get back to have lunch and then check out of the lodge.

Drive to Lake Bunyonyi where you will relax at the lake shores or take boat ride to one of the 29 islands while enjoying great sight diverse bird species.

Day 5: From Lake Bunyonyi, drive back to Kampala/Entebbe
